Hello. My name is Jayne and I'm sure that my story is very similar to many others. I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I was in the 6th grade the first time I joined Weight Watchers. I had had many "successes" with diets and programs over the years, usually getting to within about 25 lbs. of my goal and then it would start to creep up again. I have always enjoyed outdoor activities, but they were getting very difficult for me. I love to camp, hike, kayak, and horseback ride. I found myself facing 50 years old and thinking that all of the things I love are getting too hard, and I'm not ready to give them up; not to mention that I was then on blood pressure medication which I knew was only because of my weight. I started researching the lap band procedure, and after attending Dr. Pohl and Dr. Giovanni's information session decided that this was the perfect answer for me. It was the best decision I could have made.
It has taken me slightly over 2 years to finally reach my third and final goal, but the weight loss has been steady; I have felt so good during all of this that even when I had plateaus I rarely got discouraged. I always seemed to be able to keep on track and before too long I would lose some more. It was just the aide that I needed to get my tremendous appetite in check! I still love food and enjoy a good meal as much as I ever did, I just don't have to overeat to enjoy it anymore and I don't revolve my life around it anymore. I can't believe how much my life has changed! I have been off medication now for over a year, I attend 3 weekly exercise classes (Zumba is my favorite), walk 2 to 3 times per week at lunchtime, and horseback ride 4 to 5 times per week. I am much more graceful getting into a kayak, I can actually hike without having to rest more than walk, and my horseback riding has improved tremendously now that I have better core strength and balance.
I have to add that nobody is happier about this than my horse, after all; he isn't getting any younger either! I have lost 100 lbs. I had my surgery with Dr. Pohl and absolutely loved him. All of my appointments since then have been with Jeremy Frissell, PA-C; and he has been a lifeline. He is encouraging and supportive, and I don't know what I would do without him. I have also found all of the office staff to be very helpful and efficient. I'm just so happy that I mustered up the courage to go ahead with this because it has been worth every bit of the effort. It is important; however, to note that there is effort that goes along with this-it isn't magic. Eating healthy and exercising regularly are key to successful weight loss!
